The B.C. Council of film Unions came into existence by order of the Labour Relations Board on June 6th, 1996. The founding Members of the Council are I.A.T.S.E. Local 891, I.A.T.S.E. Local 669 and Teamsters Union Local No. 155. Our Member Unions have established agreements with over 80% of all film production ever done in British Columbia and are a valued resource for film-makers and producers. A Master Collective Agreement bargained between the Member Unions and negotiating Producers covers labour technicians from I.A.T.S.E. Local 891, I.A.T.S.E. Local 669 and Teamsters Union Local No. 155. We're here to help film makers and provide a context of rules that allow us to work jointly to fulfill the artistic visions of film and television artists and encourage them to do business in B.C. again.

Purpose per the Constitution:

  • To secure and maintain industrial peace and promote conditions favourable to the negotiation of collective agreements and the settlement of disputes.
  • To co-ordinate and rationalize the negotiation of collective agreements within the film industry
  • To assist with the settlement of jurisdictional disputes that may arise between the members of the Council.
  • To enter in to the collective agreements and to obtain certifications for units of employees within the film industry.
  • To act as the exclusive bargaining agent for the units of employees that it represents.
